- ➤ U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized packages containing 66.35 pounds of alleged cocaine valued at $886,023 at the Hidalgo Port of Entry on Jul 16th — a 44-year-old man driving a 2016 Dodge Charger was arrested during a secondary inspection as federal agents launched a criminal investigation. - ➤ A motion hearing was held in Brownsville for two accused of smuggling cash for a cartel after federal agents discovered $184,095 hidden in a vehicle during May surveillance—both are scheduled for re-arraignment next week with final pretrial hearings set for July 29. ValleyCentral

- ➤ The Brownsville Independent School District is asking students and parents for input on how to enforce a new cell phone ban law—updated guidelines under HB1481 will remove personal devices from classrooms starting August 13.
