- ➤ A 22-year-old woman was arrested on Monday at the Hidalgo International Bridge when customs officers found twenty parrots in a bag in her vehicle + the birds were taken to the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville. KURV

- ➤ The Gladys Porter Zoo held a ribbon cutting for its new Soaring Eagle Zipline that sends riders over 120 feet and opens today. The ride costs $8, allows two riders at a time — it is the first project in the zoo's 10-year expansion plan. KRGV

- ➤ Commercial shrimp season will reopen July 15 after a mid-May closure so local fishermen can let the shrimp grow—fishermen face long days at sea with fewer crew members while a pastor blessed the boats and Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller urged residents to support wild caught Gulf shrimp over imported options. - ➤ The city of Brownsville is seeking a new construction partner to finish the Brownsville Cannery Public Market after McAllen-based SAMES Incorporated failed to address interior delays.
