  • Jesus Lozano, who runs JAC Lawncare and Tree Service, said his avocado tree shows dry spots despite regular watering and fertilizing and he will trim the dry parts to help it grow better — he added that many lawns are turning brown and he hopes soon rain will help green them.  ValleyCentral

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gilberto Salinas, CEO of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, said the city will soon announce a project on par with SpaceX and LNG developments that will involve more than $200 million in capital investment—creating a 100-plus person operation and boosting regional jobs. The European company behind the project will supply services from South Texas through northern Mexico and Latin America and pave the way for a new 700-acre industrial park on the city's north side.  Rio Grande Guardian

  • The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley gave its all-clear on March 26 for the early morning shelter in place as Edinburg police continued their search for an armed suspect in an aggravated robbery involving a handgun.  ValleyCentral
  • Brownsville police arrested 18-year-old Juan Diego Bujanos after he allegedly tried to run over an officer at a convenience store on East Morrison Road Monday night—officers said the officer fired at his vehicle before tracking him down hours later and he now faces charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer.  KURV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local activists from Sunrise RGV and several groups will protest outside the State of the City Address at the TSC Performing Arts Center—where Mayor Cowen will discuss the city’s support for SpaceX and Rio Grande LNG—and they plan to display banners and signs urging Brownsville to cut ties with these companies.  ValleyCentral
  • Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. delivered his annual State of the City address yesterday at 6 p.m. at the Texas Southmost College Performing Arts Center (titled Edge of the Future); his speech covered the city's economic progress and major building projects aimed at improving local services.  ValleyCentral
  • During Brownsville's annual State of the City Address on Wednesday, Mayor John Cowen said the city funded 30 street projects in 2024 and began a $300 million improvement plan while SpaceX’s $3.2 billion investment and LNG projects helped boost job growth—he also noted he welcomes discussion as more than 10,000 signatures were collected on an environmental petition.  KRGV
