- ➤ More than 2,000 toys were distributed Saturday at South Texas Health System Children's hospital by Isaac's Angels Toy Drive founder Isaac Garza, who started the drive in 2015 after receiving a toy daily during his own hospital stay. Students, volunteers and state troopers helped pass out stuffed animals, art supplies and toys to cheer up young patients and their families. KRGV
- ➤ UTRGV and San Benito football players organized a fundraiser to help pay for Frank Medina’s cancer treatment in San Antonio. The community rallied on the streets of San Benito to support the former greyhound and current offensive lineman in his fight against leukemia. KRGV

- ➤ Don-Wes Flea Market owners Debbie and Jim Fitzgerald said that winter visitors bring 50 to 60 percent of their income from travelers arriving between October and March from northern states and Canada, + they now note a slower wave and hope colder weather up north will boost numbers soon. KRGV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UTRGV held a groundbreaking at 905 S. Garcia Street in Port Isabel today for a $21.5 million Marine Ecosystems Research Facility. The center will include seven labs+ student workspaces and faculty offices to boost marine and environmental science research. Rio Grande Guardian
