EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Brownsville ISD held its fifth annual Adopt an Angel event Tuesday morning when 339 unaccompanied youth at several campuses received holiday gifts delivered on 13 BISD buses. School district staff & volunteers from the Homeless Youth Connection Project organized the event to bring festive cheer to students. MyRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews will begin demolition of the Stenger Street Bridge on Monday with drivers advised to detour via U.S. Business 77 & north Sam Houston Road until work finishes by early February. KURV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen unveiled its new centennial history wall Friday, Dec. 19 at the South Tower entrance, featuring 11 panels that display photos, audio recordings, and artifacts from 100 years of hospital care (including items from the 1920s). MyRGV
- ➤ DHR Health is expanding its Brownsville hospital with $17.3M and $2M from the city to add emergency, radiology, cath lab and surgical services plus 20 jobs. Announced Dec. 18, the project adds 9,200 sqft of new construction + 4,800 sqft remodeling and finishes in two years. Rio Grande Guardian
