  • Auxiliary Bishop Mario Aviles, who has served in Brownsville since 2018, was promoted Monday by the Vatican to lead the Corpus Christi Catholic diocese—he will succeed Bishop William Michael Mulvey as its ninth bishop.  KURV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crisogono Perez Perez stays in a home that is unsafe to live in—its ceiling is falling and a wall is gone—and he endures the smell of smoke because he has nowhere else to go, even as his sister has moved out and his brother lives in a trailer while police say the fire cause is undetermined.  KRGV
  • The Brownsville Fire Marshal’s Office warned that fire calls from house, car, trash and brush fires increased in November and are expected to rise during winter as more people stay home and use appliances along with real Christmas trees, illegal burning and space heaters—urging residents to keep fire extinguishers handy and to call 911 for emergencies.  KRGV
