- ➤ Brownsville resident Jackie Vela bought her childhood home on Van Buren Street on Nov 24 but lost it to a fire on Thanksgiving Day when an appliance sparked the blaze while she slept+ she escaped unharmed and is staying with family as she plans to renovate the house that held her late mother's memories.
