- ➤ Officials say that FAA-mandated flight cuts have not affected operations at McAllen International Airport and Valley International Airport in Harlingen. Travelers are advised to check their schedules—especially since larger hub airports may see delays—so they can plan ahead. KRGV
- ➤ Texas DPS and TxDOT have teamed to launch the #EndTheStreakTX campaign aimed at reducing traffic crashes—DPS troopers will hand out tip cards with safe driving steps during stops over the next two weeks, while officials report that over 91,000 Texans have died in crashes since November 7 and 77 in the Rio Grande valley since January 1. - ➤ John Beckham, managing director of the North American Development Bank, announced at the Texas Water Foundation binational Rio Grande/Rio Bravo Symposium in McAllen that the bank has opened its first call for projects under its new Water Resiliency Fund—this fund will offer up to $100 million in concessional financing and $300 million in low-interest loans to support urgent water conservation projects in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ DHR Health is partnering with the University of Houston to build a new medical research center in South Texas. The center—located at the corner of Owassa and Jackson roads—will receive $15 million in state funds to support research, clinical training and health education on issues affecting the local community.
