BUSINESS NEWS

  • SpaceX settled a lawsuit with Cards Against Humanity over charges it trespassed on the company’s land in Cameron County; the settlement was reached last month and the card company said SpaceX admitted to placing construction materials on the property without permission—letting the company clear the site to restore its natural state.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Denise Garza, trustee for Brownsville ISD, said the bond issue on the November ballot deserves support to secure the future of district students. She noted enrollment has dropped because of charter school competition + ICE raids that have kept parents from sending their kids to school.  Rio Grande Guardian

HEALTH NEWS

  • Diana Salinas, a Valley grandmother, delayed a sonogram after her May 2023 mammogram and was later diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer (HR-positive, HER2-negative), undergoing 16 rounds of chemotherapy, a mastectomy, and 30 days of radiation before reaching remission. She credits her family (including her supportive sister) for her strength and urges women to get regular exams for early detection.  KRGV
  • DHR Health Oncology Institute (the only Commission on Cancer-accredited program south of San Antonio) in Edinburg provides top cancer care with a team that helps patients from diagnosis to treatment. Dr. Gummadi urged residents to get routine mammograms and talk to their doctor if they notice any changes.  Rio Grande Guardian

  • Esperanza Homes held a groundbreaking ceremony on October 16 at 4401 La Sienna Pkwy in Edinburg where officials — Nick Rhodes, Shant Samtani, and Mayor Ramiro Garza — started plans for building two new communities. Sapphire at La Sienna will have a clubhouse, pool, and sports courts while Villas at La Sienna will offer energy-efficient homes, peaceful walking trails, and easy access to N.
