- ➤ Cameron County and the City of Brownsville announced a partnership to expand TIRZ No. 3 to revitalize downtown, covering areas from Sam Perl Boulevard to Glady’s Porter Zoo. The agreement will fund key infrastructure improvements + support economic growth as planning is underway. Cameron County
- ➤ Texas ranchers got help today — the FDA approved a drug to fight the invasive New World screw-worm fly that harms cattle herds. Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller said the move eases tensions among ranchers as the insect moves north through Mexico. KURV
- ➤ Residents in Cuellar Colonia in Weslaco say the bumpy road on East 24th Street needs a full replacement instead of more pothole patches—Hidalgo County Precinct 1 is starting to qualify the road for urban county funding to support repairs. KRGV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ South Texas Health System is offering discounted mammogram screenings throughout October to help catch breast cancer early—one in eight women face the disease. The program aims to improve early detection with these special rates. KRGV
- ➤ Texas hemp license holders cannot sell consumable hemp products to anyone under 21 after Health and Human Services Commissioner Cecile Erwin Young approved an emergency rule on Friday—effective immediately.
