- ➤ A Mission mother of three received a $5,000 grant from Region One Education Service Center’s Teacher Alternative Certification Program to pursue her dream of becoming a certified special education teacher—Evelyn Sackey will soon start classes to ease the shortage of qualified educators in the Rio Grande Valley. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city of Brownsville is upgrading several parks to improve accessibility and comfort as part of its Parks, Health and Recreation Master Plan + officials say the changes will give residents safer outdoor spaces. The updates will be completed in the coming months. City of Brownsville
- ➤ The Rio Grande Valley Emergency Communication District will hold its third Public Safety Wellness Seminar in Mission on Sept. 30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the event will highlight telecommunicators and offer wellness tools for public safety workers. KRGV
