- ➤ Brownsville residents welcomed volunteers at the first community clean-up event under the B.R.I.G.H.T. initiative — Brownsville Residents Improving Grounds, Homes, and Tomorrow — held on Friday in District 1. The event launched a citywide movement aimed at improving local grounds and homes. City of Brownsville
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 17 for a nearly 100,000 square-foot, $80 million public safety facility on the north side along FM 511—this new complex will house police, Fire/EMS, emergency management and cybersecurity teams and will be funded without raising taxes using FEMA grants, landfill fees and the city’s capital improvement plan. The project marks a major upgrade from the facility built four decades ago and supports a fast-growing area of Brownsville. Rio Grande Guardian
- ➤ County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. has ordered Boca Chica Beach and part of State Highway 4 to close for SpaceX testing on September 22 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. or on September 23 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to protect public health and safety—SpaceX and law enforcement will set up checkpoints to enforce the safety zone.
