GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Brownsville has reserved over $1 million to repair 13 streets as part of its $253 million 2026 budget approved on Sept. 2. Deputy City Manager Alan Guard said data and community feedback helped select the worst and busiest roads—work that will begin in phases on Oct. 1.  KRGV
  • Valley Metro is exploring a new bus stop at the Harlingen VA Clinic after veterans requested better access to care. The stop will serve Route 40 with six weekday trips and may include a shelter—public input is now welcomed.  KRGV
  • Drivers in Mission are warned that Bryan Road from Business 83 to FM-495 will be closed starting Wednesday for a drainage project—part of a six-million-dollar plan. The project will take about a year and include new paving, sidewalks, a center turn lane, and new water and sewer lines—drivers should use Mayberry Road and Stewart Road as detours.  KURV
