  • Brownsville police are asking residents to help identify suspects in a recent theft at Old Navy and have released images of those involved while urging anyone who recognizes them to call at (956) 546-8477.  FOX RGV

  • The Rio Grande Guardian celebrated its 20th Anniversary today and thanked readers, reporters, sponsors, and supporters for a journey that began in summer 2005—evolving from focused legislative coverage to community news and international trade reporting. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Brownsville Independent School District held its annual back to school fair Saturday, Aug. 9th at the Central Administration Building on Palm Blvd, where over 60 agencies offered free backpacks, school supplies, immunizations, dental screenings, and haircuts for kids. Diana Clough, the district's homeless coordinator, led the event that featured live music and vendor activities — a festive day that provided vital resources to local families.  MyRGV
  • Brownsville ISD will introduce changes for students and staff in the upcoming school year by adjusting curriculum and policies—details on implementation and timing will be provided later. The move aims to enhance learning and work conditions across district schools.  KRGV

  • Cameron County leaders broke ground on upgrades to Beach Access No. 3 on South Padre Island on Monday—funded by a $4.4 million SpaceX donation and state funds—and the project will add an elevated plaza, new pavilions, ADA parking and permeable parking while closing the access at 28495 State Park Road 100-North until mid-summer 2026.  KRGV
