- ➤ Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation unveiled its Strategic Plan for 2025-2029 to guide efforts in parks, small business support, downtown revitalization and more—based on nearly 200 community members' input—while setting five strategic goals to boost economic and community well-being. - ➤ Su Clinica is hosting a back-to-school health fair on Saturday, August 23 from 9 a.m. to noon at their Brownsville clinic at 105 E Alton Gloor. The event will help Rio Grande Valley families prepare for the new school year by offering tips on mental preparedness and limiting screen time. KRGV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 17-year-old teen died in a crash in Los Fresnos when his Ford Ranger lost control around 12:30 p.m. on State Highway 100 near Old Port Isabel Road—preliminary reports cite speed as a factor and the driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. KURV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UTRGV will offer 3,000 free student tickets for each home football game this season. Emails will be sent the Monday before each game—students must claim their tickets by 10 a.m. on Wednesday—and the first home game is set for August 30. KURV
- ➤ Point Isabel ISD is spending nearly $900,000 from state grants to upgrade campus safety by installing ballistic film on windows + new exterior doors and perimeter fencing as it prepares for the new school year. KRGV

- ➤ City of Brownsville leaders secured $27.8 million in funding from the Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization—this money will support Intelligent Transportation System capital improvement projects to improve local transit. City of Brownsville
