- ➤ City of Brownsville partnered with the Mitte Cultural District and announced Monday the transformation of the former Brownsville Museum of Fine Art (now The Mitte: Arts and Cultural Center) into a hub for local arts. - ➤ Girl Scout Avalyn Miami Macias organized the 2025 Arts and Literacy Festival at Linear Park on July 26 as part of her Gold Award project, where families enjoyed free books, virtual reality exhibits from the Children’s Museum of Brownsville, and literary booths by nonprofit R.O.C.A—adding both art and learning to the community. - ➤ Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. has ordered the temporary closure of Boca Chica Beach and State Highway 4 from FM 1419 to the beach on July 30 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for SpaceX non-flight testing. SpaceX and law enforcement will enforce checkpoints — residents with proper proof of residence may pass — to keep the area secure during the event. Cameron County
- ➤ At the LRGVDC Small Cities Coalition meeting held July 22 in Weslaco, Prairie View A&M Extension agents Rina Castillo and Megan Rodriguez explained their community and economic development programs to support local farms, families, and small businesses — the programs already serve 66 Texas counties — and they plan to add more agents to boost home ownership and financial literacy.
