- ➤ Progreso City Hall has faced corruption since 2003—every mayor from 2003 to 2023 was convicted on public corruption or drug trafficking charges and most recently, former mayor Jerry Alanis pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking on Feb 25 and was sentenced to three years and 10 months with a $15,000 fine on July 24.
