- ➤ Buckner Home hosted a back-to-school event on July 17 at the Alamo Community Center where over 700 backpacks loaded with school supplies were distributed to local children. The backpacks, organized by grade level, went to families using Buckner programs—such as the Buckner Family Hope Center at Donna. ValleyCentral

- ➤ Gladys Porter Zoo launched its new ‘Soaring Eagle’ zipline on May 27 as part of a master plan to boost adventure at the park—families can now experience an exciting way to see the zoo. City of Brownsville
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Brownsville launched a new space accelerator to help local businesses tap into the growing space economy—companies will soon get tools and advice to start new projects. City officials say the program is expected to create jobs and boost the local economy. City of Brownsville
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents across the Rio Grande Valley have noticed empty canals that normally carry thousands of gallons per second to supply cities and farms, but a lower water flow means less push water over long distances (an acre foot fills half an Olympic-sized pool). This lack of water affects city use of about 280,000 acre feet every year while farms need nearly a million acre feet. KRGV
