  • A 33-year-old woman was arrested at the Hidalgo International Bridge on Wednesday after she falsely claimed US citizenship, did not provide any ID, and was held for biometric verification—officers confirmed she is a Mexican citizen with a criminal history and removal orders, and she now faces immigration law charges.  KURV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Record rains fell in Brownsville, Harlingen and McAllen on July 1 — the National Weather Service reported 3 to 7 inches in Hidalgo, Willacy and Cameron counties, but the heavy rain left Amistad reservoir nearly 30 percent full and Falcon reservoir just over 15 percent full.  KURV

  • Cameron County Beach Patrol boosted its presence at Isla Blanca Park today as heavy Fourth of July crowds face a yellow flag warning for moderate surf and currents. Officials urge beachgoers to swim with a buddy and stay calm if caught in a rip current — following safety tips like not swimming against the strong current.  KRGV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center has named Dr. Melissa Draper as its new senior veterinarian—she will manage pet treatment, promote adoptions, and oversee disease prevention to keep the community safe. Draper, who previously taught veterinary forensics at Texas A and M University-Corpus Christi, brings expertise to help guide the center’s operations.  KRGV
