- ➤ A 23-year-old woman and her 2-year-old daughter remain in critical condition after a Sunday crash on Highway 100 in Los Fresnos where a green pick-up truck driven by the baby’s father lost control and hit another vehicle — police detected alcohol on the driver and await toxicology results. KRGV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Rodrigo Axel Espinosa Valdez pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lesser charge of murder in the killing of San Benito Police Lt. Milton Resendez—he now faces charges of capital murder, six counts of attempted murder, and evading arrest while the investigation continues. ValleyCentral
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Animal advocates have raised concerns over roadside animal sales after a new law—House Bill 2731, crafted by Rebecca Chavez and sponsored by State Representative Sergio Munoz—is set to take effect in September. County officials in Hidalgo, Cameron, Webb, and El Paso will develop rules to regulate sales, improve animal care, and enforce penalties. ValleyCentral
- ➤ More than 8,000 South Texas households have been approved for federal assistance after severe storms & flooding in late March, with over $54 million allocated across Hidalgo, Cameron, Willacy and Starr counties. The Small Business Administration approved nearly $8 million in disaster loans, and over 7,700 people visited FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in the Rio Grande Valley since they opened last month.
