- ➤ Brownsville Police are seeking help identifying suspects who vandalized Tony Gonzalez Park at 34 Tony Gonzalez Dr.—graffiti defaced murals, fences, and trees and anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 956-546-8377. KRGV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Brownsville ISD Board of Trustees appointed Neida Ruth Soto-Grantland to the vacant Place 7 seat with a 6—0 vote, filling the gap left after Board President Erasmo Castro’s passing in February. ValleyCentral
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Greg Abbott has ordered a special legislative session — it will begin on July 21 to review six bills he vetoed last Sunday. One of the bills would have banned the sale of hemp products containing THC. KURV
- ➤ Yesterday, the Starbase Commission approved SpaceX's request to install gates on four city streets to boost security and limit unwanted visitors. The city manager said codes will be provided to public safety agencies and delivery drivers—ensuring approved access where needed. KURV
- ➤ FEMA has approved over $54.6 million in aid for more than 8,176 households in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties after severe storms and flooding from March 26 through March 28 — 7,765 people visited the Disaster Recovery Centers, which are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and those who received award letters may file appeals if they disagree with the decisions.
