- ➤ Juan Ramos, Junior, president of the Progreso ISD school board, was arrested for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance—school officials said his arrest will not change how the school runs. KURV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Local leaders and contractors say ICE raids have made workers fearful and halted construction projects for more than three weeks—forcing financial strain as stalled homes incur rising loan interest. Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza told a town hall that clear protocols are needed so federal agents only enter private properties with a warrant. FOX RGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino said during the commissioners court meeting that the county never approved South Padre Island’s convention center expansion (citing environmental and design concerns) and that officials only learned of the project through media reports. South Padre Island Mayor Patrick McNulty said the city is finalizing new designs that will be submitted in three to four weeks. KRGV
- ➤ The Texas Workforce Commission held an event on Wednesday to award a $262,944 Skills Development Fund grant to Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande in partnership with Lone Star National Bank—this funding will support customized training for 317 employees in banking and financial services occupations. - ➤ The remains of U.S. Navy sailor Angelina Resendiz, reported missing from Naval Station Norfolk on May 29, will return to the Rio Grande Valley today at 8:00 p.m. at Valley International Airport and be received with full military honors; her funeral service is set for 5:00 p.m. on June 27 at The Church of Latter-day Saints on Price Rd.
