  • Sams Memorial Stadium in Brownsville is undergoing a $3.1 million renovation to convert it from a football, track, and field facility into a football and soccer complex with high-quality turf—work began on June 10 and will continue until the last week of August—and the field will be ready for practice and games next year.  ValleyCentral

  • Mayors from South Texas said federal immigration raids were carried out without notice to local officials, which caused confusion and hurt business operations.   • City leaders in Brownsville have chosen Fort Worth-based Freese and Nichols Inc. to develop a Downtown Renaissance Master Plan—designed to set guidelines for future downtown development over the next 10—20 years.
