- ➤ On Wednesday, Carlos Favian Martinez, son-in-law of Gulf Cartel boss Osiel Cardenas Guillen, was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison and fined $2 million after pleading guilty to extortion and money laundering—charges linked to forcing transmigrantes to pay a piso at Los Indios Bridge. - ➤ Dr. Daniel Covarrubias, director of the Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development at Texas A&M International University, joined a panel at the eBridge Center for Business and Commercialization in downtown Brownsville at a forum hosted by the Mexican Consulate's Office. He said North American trade must now combine security and prosperity discussions to support stronger cooperation between the U.S., Mexico and Canada (he is a frequent contributor to the Guardian). - ➤ Dr. Salvador Contreras, professor of economics at UTRGV—who joined a forum at the eBridge Center in downtown Brownsville—discussed US-Mexico trade. - ➤ The City of Brownsville congratulated Stacey Araujo for winning a brand-new PlayStation 5 provided through a special giveaway tied to the Parks, Health, and Recreation Master Plan survey. City of Brownsville
- ➤ Cameron County will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Pump Track at Pedro “Pete” Benavides County Park on June 13th at 7:00 p.m.—the track was built with ARPA funds at a cost of about $424,000, spans 492 feet, and features three jumps for riders of all ages. Cameron County
