- ➤ The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show was awarded a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to upgrade its technology and connectivity for exhibitors and visitors—plans include improvements that will support agricultural education, competition and community engagement while the show also awarded $1.7 million to local youth this year. - ➤ Famed humanitarian Jack White—who passed away on his 85th birthday May 22 in Brownsville—gave a lengthy interview that is split into two parts, with Part One detailing his early career and decades of service to those in need. Rio Grande Guardian
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A former Edcouch alderman, Rene Adan Flores, was sentenced yesterday in McAllen to just over a year in prison for accepting a $2,000 bribe in a kickback scheme linked to a Brownsville business, after he pled guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States. KURV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. has ordered Boca Chica Beach and a section of State Highway 4 from FM 1419 (Oklahoma Ave.) to be closed today from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for SpaceX testing, with an alternate closure on June 6 if needed; SpaceX and law enforcement will coordinate checkpoints that permit access for local residents with proof of residence. - ➤ Brownsville residents will go to the polls on Saturday, June 7, to vote in runoff elections for the City Commission—At-Large B—and District 4 seats that remained undecided after May’s election. City of Brownsville
