COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Brownsville’s Parks and Recreation Department is bringing its Mobile Recreation Unit (MRU) into neighborhoods for the 2025 summer fun series. The MRU will offer games and outdoor activities that give families a new way to enjoy the season.  City of Brownsville

CRIME NEWS

  • Brownsville police said a 25-year-old man was shot in the face at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the 4900 block of Salida De Luna and taken to a local hospital — his condition remains stable — while the investigation is ongoing.  KRGV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tar balls have washed ashore on South Padre Island, causing problems for families and visitors along a 10-mile stretch of the northern beach. The Texas General Land Office said tests are underway to determine the tar's source from natural seeps and advised that baby oil or WD-40 can remove it if touched.  KRGV
