  • Brownsville will expand its trail network and honor trail advocate Dr. Rose Gowan — a longtime supporter of the project — in an upcoming ceremony. City officials said the upgrade will improve outdoor access for residents.  City of Brownsville
  • The City of Brownsville will host its second annual Space Fest this weekend—extending the celebration to two days with guest appearances from NASA, SpaceX, and the Astronomical Society. The event begins Friday at 6 p.m. at 923 E. Washington St. and continues Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Children’s Museum at 501 E. Ringgold St., and it is free to the public.  ValleyCentral

CRIME NEWS

  • Palmview PD is seeking help identifying three suspects involved in an aggravated robbery on May 17 when a stolen car crashed at Stripes Convenience Store and ran over a woman's foot as she tried to intervene—authorities noted the suspects, one man and two women, were seen entering nearby Whataburger before the incident.  ValleyCentral
  • A judge on Tuesday dismissed the indictment against Kelly Anne Jensen — and Zachary Golden Jensen in the Arroyo Terminals case, with the U.S. Attorney’s Office saying the dismissal was in the interest of justice but providing no further details.  ValleyCentral

  • Downtown Brownsville saw major upgrades to its water and wastewater systems as the city modernized aging infrastructure to boost service for residents and businesses+ officials said the improvements are expected to cut future repair costs.  City of Brownsville
  • Two Brownsville City Commission races will head to a runoff election+no candidate secured a majority in the May municipal vote+ officials will announce runoff dates soon.  City of Brownsville
  • Brownsville city officials launched the 546-HELP LINE to give residents quick access to essential city services and support. Residents can call the hotline for help with emergencies and routine city issues.  City of Brownsville
  • Early voting began Tuesday for the runoff election in Brownsville—two city commissioner seats remain open with candidates Nurith Galonsky, Roy De Los Santos, Pedro Cardenas, and Daisy Zamora in the race. Voters can cast ballots at the Brownsville Public Library on Central Blvd and Southmost Blvd until June 03, with Election Day set for June 07.  ValleyCentral
  • The Texas Workforce Commission is accepting disaster-related unemployment assistance applications from Rio Grande Valley residents who lost work due to severe storms and flooding in late March — help is open for workers and self-employed individuals in Cameron, Willacy, Starr and Hidalgo counties.  KURV
