ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Brownsville Mayor John Cowen, Jr. said the city will see $40 billion in projects because its location is good for trade plus many people live nearby. He said the new Greater Brownsville Tech District will begin with 86 acres, 13 lots and 1.3 million square feet of industrial space to meet the demand for more work sites. Rio Grande Guardian

- ➤ The City of Brownsville hosted the One City Information Fair on May 22 at the Brownsville Event Center + residents across the community participated in the event. City of Brownsville
- ➤ On May 23, Cameron County received federal disaster assistance for residents impacted by the severe March storms; the Major Disaster Declaration unlocks FEMA resources—offering help with temporary housing and home repairs. Cameron County
- ➤ Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. ordered closures of Boca Chica Beach and Highway 4 from FM 1419 to the beach entrance on May 27, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. for SpaceX testing intended to protect public health and safety, with May 28 or May 29 as alternate dates. SpaceX and law enforcement will coordinate to enforce a safety zone—only authorized personnel will access the area during these hours. Cameron County
- ➤ SpaceX will conduct TXDOT-approved transportation operations on State Hwy 4 from a factory to a launch pad that may briefly delay traffic for about 1 hour during either a window on May 25 from 9:00 p.m. to May 26 at 8:00 a.m. or on May 26 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.+ drivers should note that the highway and beach will remain open during the operation.
