  • A doctor from Mission, Jorge Zamora-Quezada, 68, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for falsely diagnosing patients and billing insurers for unneeded tests — federal authorities said the fraud involved over $118 million in false claims and more than $28 million paid by insurers — after a 25-day trial.  ValleyCentral

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Edinburg CISD board reprimanded Superintendent Mario Salinas and placed him on paid administrative leave for five days starting Thursday—this action followed safety lapses including a delayed lockdown after a student brought a gun to Edinburg North High School. The board also voted not to renew contracts for an assistant principal, a supervisor, a counselor, and five teachers who will finish the current school year.  ValleyCentral

  • The FAA approved SpaceX’s Starship Flight 9 launch at Boca Chica after completing an investigation into a previous mishap—SpaceX may launch as early as Tuesday with the city of Brownsville noting a potential date.  KRGV
  • On May 20, the Brownsville City Commission met to approve plans to expand housing, boost economic growth, and honor local achievements in culture, education, and public service — key steps that will shape the city's future.
