- ➤ A 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen Jeep Gladiator through Brownsville that ended with a crash into multiple vehicles—no injuries were reported. FOX RGV
- ➤ Brownsville police arrested Jose Alberto Rivas, 36, after he allegedly left two puppies in a hot vehicle near E. Saint Francis Sam Perl Boulevard on May 17 at 2:06 p.m.—officers rescued the distressed puppies who were then taken by Animal Services, and Rivas was arraigned on May 18 with a $6,000 bond. - ➤ Cameron County Commissioners Court approved Starbase as a Type C general law city on May 20 after residents voted 212 in favor and six opposed the change from Boca Chica Village. - ➤ The City of Brownsville’s Department of Engineering and Public Works said three new traffic lights—erected by the Texas Department of Transportation—will be fully operational on June 10 to boost road safety and improve traffic flow.
