- ➤ Authorities in Hidalgo and Cameron counties arrested a Sharyland ISD student this morning after a social media threat at Sharyland High School—police also increased security at Dr. Rodriguez Elementary School and enforced a shelter-in-place at another school following an anonymous phone call. - ➤ A Rio Grande Valley insurance agent from Safeguard Insurance Agency said renters insurance protects personal property if a fire or storm causes damage. He urged Brownsville renters to get coverage after a recent apartment fire left one tenant uninsured—many renters in the area still lack protection. KRGV

- ➤ A proposed bill in Congress would add a 5% tax on remittances sent abroad by non-citizens, which immigrants say could make sending money to their families more expensive. Currency exchange owners and community members worry as debates continue in Washington + lawmakers consider the tax for its potential to raise revenue. FOX RGV
- ➤ A 20-foot sinkhole (formed after the March storm) on Business 77 in Combes is hindering repairs to a broken water and sewer line that forced residents to boil their water since April 16. Mayor Silvestre Garcia said the repair must lower the water table to about 20 to 22 feet before replacing a 17-foot deep line (the city expects the hole to be covered by June 1). KRGV
