Cameron County held a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. today at 33034 River Drive in La Feria to open Santa Maria Community Park.

The 10.83-acre park features sports courts, a splash pad, walking trail and picnic shelter—providing a new outdoor destination for families and residents.

South Padre Island and Texas GLO approved a study to research erosion at 10 bayside access points and explore living shoreline solutions; the project will cost $408,000 with the city providing $160,000 and the state grant funding the rest.

Data collection starts later this year and input meetings are planned.
