ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Nine stray cattle disrupted traffic near FM 676 and North Glasscock Road this morning before local police corralled them—transferring the animals to west side holding pens pending the livestock owner’s return.  FOX RGV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon announced plans to build a 62,000 square-foot delivery station at 1910 FM 511 in Brownsville with construction starting in early May. Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. said the project is expected to create jobs and strengthen local business.  KRGV

CRIME NEWS

  • Officers in the Rio Grande Valley chased two suspects after spotting suspicious activity in two vehicles and arrested them when they blocked police to help a smuggling vehicle escape—authorities continue to search for the remaining individuals.  FOX RGV
  • Customs and Border Protection warned travelers to check their vehicles and items before crossing the border—criminals are secretly placing drugs inside to use innocent drivers as blind mules, which can lead to severe penalties ranging from 5 to 40 years in prison.  FOX RGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers are advised to use alternate routes as Jackson Road from Trenton to Owassa Road will close nightly from 9 PM to 6 AM for the Adam Brooks Paving project, which is set to improve traffic flow over the next two weeks — motorists should plan their trips carefully. This effort will reshape this key route to make commutes safer and smoother.  FOX RGV
  • Gustavo De Leon was sworn in Tuesday as Brownsville's new District 3 commissioner after winning the May 3 election—he plans to attract new businesses and fix road and drainage issues, with his term ending in 2029 and a runoff set for June 7 for other seats.  KRGV
  • City officials have been addressing a boil water advisory in Combes after a ten-inch water main break near Business 77 and Nita Street caused a sinkhole and raised concerns about water safety—daily flushing is underway to restore chlorine levels—with repairs expected to be completed in two weeks. Residents are advised to boil water for drinking and cooking until the advisory is lifted.  FOX RGV
