CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two teens were charged after a stolen Jeep Gladiator was recovered on Thursday in downtown Brownsville; 18-year-old Daniel Torres faces aggravated assault, evading arrest, resisting arrest and theft charges with a bond set at ($71,500) while 17-year-old Jose Antonio Reyna faces theft charges with a bond set at ($15,000). - ➤ Police in San Benito arrested Reymundo Cerda, Benjamin Eckersley, and Gilberto De Leon, Junior on Tuesday after investigators said Cerda and Eckersley left their service truck unattended on February 11th—allowing De Leon to use a spare key to allegedly steal over $115,000, and all the men were charged with money laundering while Cerda and De Leon also face theft of cargo charges. - ➤ Today, Brownsville police arrested three suspects after a high-speed chase ended at International Boulevard and East Madison Street—where a stolen Jeep Gladiator was cornered amid four thefts reported this week linked to organized groups hiring teenagers to smuggle vehicles across the border. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On May 7, STHS Behavioral held a ribbon cutting to launch its Intensive Outpatient Program for patients facing mental health or substance use issues. About 50 community members listened to patient testimonials and saw treatment techniques (including group, family, and individual therapy) that let patients access focused care without hospitalization.
