CRIME NEWS

  • The Willacy County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Presley Gene Vela—accused of shooting a man, aggravated robbery, and tampering with evidence—in Sebastian.  FOX RGV
  • A woman pleaded guilty to drunk driving in a 2022 crash in Combes that killed a man and hurt his wife and was sentenced to 12 years, and the victim's family said they were disappointed with the sentence.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The FAA released a report yesterday that said an increase in SpaceX launches from Starbase in Cameron County will not have a significant impact on Boca Chica Beach — the agency may allow up to 25 missions a year if SpaceX meets other requirements. The company must complete extra steps before its license is modified.  KURV
  • New Real ID rules will soon take effect for air travel and aim to boost security—but undocumented travelers may face limits if they do not have a compliant ID. The Transportation Security Administration said passports, green cards, and DOD IDs are acceptable—immigration experts warn the rule could restrict travel for some.  FOX RGV
  • Pharr International Bridge Director Luis Bazan said the second span is 45% complete on our side and is expected to finish by December so it can open for trade by early next year—local and Mexican partnerships have helped speed up the project.  Rio Grande Guardian

  • Chase Bearden, executive director of the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities, warned that House Bill 3265 will expand the 340B Drug Pricing Program without adding needed safeguards — a change that could let hospitals and pharmacies keep more savings instead of lowering drug costs for patients.
