- ➤ Former Mexican President Vicente Fox participated in a Fireside Chat at Texas Southmost College’s Performing Arts Center in Brownsville as part of RGV StartUp Week—his conversation with Texas Tribune reporter Berenice Garcia is now available online. Rio Grande Guardian
- ➤ Pavement repairs will begin today on the eastbound lanes of I-2 from FM 492 to Conway Avenue in Palmview and run until Friday, May 9 with work scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.—drivers should expect lane closures and delays including temporary closures of the frontage road ramps. - ➤ Residents of Cameron County voted on Saturday to create the city of Starbase around a SpaceX facility near the Mexican border — the vote selected the town’s first mayor and two city commissioners who are all SpaceX employees. Elon Musk confirmed the city's establishment on social media. KURV
- ➤ Brownsville Navigation District leaders are in talks with carriers to add container port services at the Port of Brownsville—negotiations will lead to new infrastructure needs such as cranes and restricted areas, and changes could take 24 months to five years if agreements are reached. The port, which currently handles only bulk and break bulk cargo, is also planning to upgrade its monitoring with AI to better track materials. Rio Grande Guardian
