- ➤ Starbucks will open its first 3D printed drive-thru only store on Friday in Brownsville, built by a robotic arm pouring layers of concrete to form the structure; experts say the method costs more + helps overcome labor shortages and may speed up construction. KURV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Hidalgo County man faces murder charges after his father died when deputies responded to an April 15th call at a San Carlos home and he was arrested on April 16th for allegedly assaulting the victim; he was charged with murder on April 29th with his bond set at (bond $1,000,000) and he is (42) years old. KURV
- ➤ Two men have been sentenced for a firearms trafficking ring as Alamo native Jose Luis Caballero pleaded guilty in September 2024 to trafficking and illegal exportation while Mexican national Juan Antonio Cantu-Cavazos pleaded guilty in October 2023 to trafficking and illegal possession, with each receiving four years in federal prison as Caballero was ordered to serve three years of supervised release and Cantu-Cavazos will face removal proceedings. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UTRGV reactivated the records of nine international students whose visas were revoked earlier this month as of Monday, April 28. The university said the rollback in visa cancellations came after lawsuits were filed + no student will have their visa terminated until Immigration and Customs Enforcement completes a new review system. - ➤ Pharr presented a $1 million check to the PossAble Dream Foundation on Tuesday to start a new tuition-free adult high school that will let adults up to age 50 earn a traditional diploma with career training. The school will open in Fall at the former Pharr Events Center and will serve students from across the Rio Grande Valley including Brownsville. KRGV
