- ➤ Dante Galeazzi of the Texas International Produce Association said at a press conference in south Pharr that if the US Department of Commerce withdraws from the nearly three-decade-old Tomato Suspension Agreement—which supports nearly 47,000 jobs and has an economic impact of 8.33 billion dollars—the local produce market will suffer and he urged officials to modernize the agreement rather than scrap it. - ➤ The lower Rio Grande was named 5th on American Rivers’ 2025 list as water shortage, old dam structures, and poor management have left less than one fifth of its water reaching the Gulf. - ➤ Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. said there is misinformation about the new arena funding and clarified that property taxes will not be used, as the project will be funded by visitor tax revenue collected from hotels and rentals in the county. He explained that the arena will be part of a master planned development aimed at boosting local economic growth—supported by projects from SpaceX, LNG, and other key industry players. - ➤ The Texas Comptroller’s Office said that the state sales tax on emergency supplies is suspended from today until Monday. The tax break covers portable generators under $3,000, emergency ladders and hurricane shutters under $300, and essential items (batteries, first aid kits, radios and flashlights costing less than $75).
