  • Edinburg pharmacist Cynthia Ann Herrera was indicted Tuesday on six counts of healthcare fraud for billing Medicaid $2 million on unprescribed medication and six counts of aggravated identity theft, and she appeared Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Juan Alaniz.  MyRGV
  • U.S. Customs at the Pharr International Bridge stopped a shipment of squash with over 1,000 pounds of suspected meth valued at about $9 million on Sunday — following a similar seizure last week estimated at nearly $14 million.  KURV
  • Today, the trial of Jesse Edward Leatherwood, accused of killing Deputy Constable Ruben Garcia, concluded its third day with forensic testimony linking blunt force trauma from a high-impact collision and evidence of cocaine in his system while his defense argued that a medicated DPS interview affected his statements — further testimony will begin tomorrow.  FOX RGV

  • Four UTRGV students are suing the federal government after it revoked their educational visas, saying ICE does not have the right to cancel them. Three of the students study in Edinburg and one in Brownsville, and officials said that earlier this month nine students had their visas revoked.  KURV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Four international students from UTRGV filed a lawsuit against DHS after their F-1 visas were revoked between April 7 and April 10 for minor offenses that did not warrant removal; they asked the court to reinstate their status and pause further actions until a full review is completed. This legal action challenges a broader government initiative affecting over 1,000 students nationwide.  FOX RGV
  • Brownsville residents gathered Wednesday evening at the Office of Space Commerce Complex for 'Coffee with the Mayor' (hosted by Mayor John Cowen Jr.) as an open forum for community dialogue (addressing local concerns).  City of Brownsville
