- ➤ A new agreement with Sombrero Festival organizers will bring $10M-$30M in upgrades to Washington Park, including a new pavilion, ADA improvements and enhanced event features. Final designs and funding are underway, with construction expected to begin next year if approved. KRGV

- ➤ San Benito officials announced an expansion of the Freddy Fender Museum to open June 13 at the remodeled Community Building on E. Heywood St. + The reopening event will include a tribute concert with Max Baca, Los Texmaniacs and Rick Trevino. MyRGV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Brownsville ISD's board voted 5-2 Wednesday to place Superintendent Dr. Jesus Chavez on administrative leave, costing taxpayers $200K, and later named Alda Benavides as interim superintendent as the district began its search for a new leader. KRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sen. John Cornyn met with industry and education leaders last Friday at the Texas A&M Advanced Manufacturing Hub to discuss expanding Pell Grant eligibility under the new law. He noted the America First Refining project is expected to bring thousands of jobs to the region. MyRGV
