Chavez on administrative leave during a Tuesday board meeting + the board voted 5+2 on the action while appointing Alda Benavides as interim superintendent to ensure continuity after Chavez's announced resignation takes effect at the end of the current school year. - ➤ The Brownsville Independent School District board voted yesterday to place retiring superintendent Jesus H. Chavez on administrative leave after 2 1/2 years in office and named Alma Benavidez as interim superintendent to maintain school leadership — Chavez thanked staff and community for their support.
