  • On April 3, a press conference unveiled official details for RGV Startup Week 2025 — the largest entrepreneurship and innovation event in the Rio Grande Valley.   • Experts at a South Padre Island conference forecast an above-average hurricane season with 9 hurricanes and 17 named storms expected later this year—CBS 4 meteorologist Bryan Hale said 3 to 4 of those storms may reach major status.  ValleyCentral

  • City of Brownsville is developing a new Parks, Health, and Recreation Master Plan and is asking residents to help shape future outdoor spaces and recreational services — public feedback will guide the plan.  City of Brownsville
  • A bill introduced by state Sen. Adam Hinojosa will shift weekday authority to close Boca Chica beach for SpaceX launches to the proposed city of Starbase, which residents will vote to incorporate in May—Cameron County will keep control on Friday afternoons and weekends. Local groups and county officials oppose the change while lawmakers say the bill is designed to streamline the process without increasing beach closure days.  Click2Houston
  • Cameron County Commissioner Gus Ruiz said that mosquito spraying started Thursday and will continue as needed — debris collection also began for residents in Precinct Four’s unincorporated areas. Residents without sidewalks were told to place storm debris at the edge of their property before the curb to keep roadways clear.  ValleyCentral
  • On March 13th, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agriculture specialists found the rare pest Diabrotica sexmaculata on palm foliage at the Veterans International Bridge in Brownsville — a USDA entomologist confirmed the pest and the shipment was re-exported to Mexico.  ValleyCentral
  • Brownsville airport is running on generators after an underground electrical line burned Wednesday night. Airport Director Angel Ramos said crews are assessing damage and repairs are underway while some flights have been delayed—passenger operations remain normal.  KRGV
