  • Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the 41st annual Causeway Run, which will take place Saturday, April 12 in Port Isabel—Mary Gonzalez explained sign-up details during her interview with Channel 5 News.  KRGV

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal agents arrested three men on Saturday after seizing nearly 402 pounds of cocaine from a white Peterbilt tractor-trailer traveling from the Rio Grande Valley to Houston; the trio is scheduled to appear in Brownsville federal court on Tuesday afternoon.  MyRGV
  • Brownsville police ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death for a man found in a vehicle in a parking lot on the 800 block of Washington Street, with items inside suggesting a possible drug overdose.  ValleyCentral
  • Brownsville police responded on March 31 to a call at Woodspring Suites on Media Luna Road where they found a dead man in an advanced state of decomposition—preliminary findings suggest his death may have been due to either suicide or overdose and an autopsy will determine the official cause.  ValleyCentral

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pumps have been moved in Santa Rosa to clear floodwaters, but water drifts through neighborhoods and many residents have left their homes as the pumps appear ineffective. Mayor Jaime Quiroga and emergency crews are working with the American Red Cross to assist those affected, including homeowner Leroy Cabrera who is seeking shelter elsewhere.  KRGV

  • The City of Brownsville has opened a Request for Interest process to find creative partners for the future use of the former BMFA building in the heart of the Mitte Cultural District—city officials say proposals must be innovative and sustainable.  City of Brownsville
  • County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. announced that permit fees for flood-related home repairs are waived for 14 days in unincorporated Cameron County to help residents recover from recent floods— the county will request an extension at the Commissioners Court meeting on April 8.  Cameron County
