COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the San Benito Boys and Girls Club is asking for donations for flood victims—water, air fresheners, bleach, five-gallon buckets, sponges, paper towels, latex gloves and laundry detergent—and donations may be dropped off Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 410 N. CRIME NEWS

  • A man was found dead inside a vehicle in a parking lot at the 800 block of Washington Street on Saturday around 11 p.m.—Brownsville police said they launched an investigation.  KRGV

CULTURE NEWS

  • James C. Harrington wrote a column urging us to honor César Chávez today by also recognizing immigrant farmworkers who work long days to grow our food. He argued that our leaders must act soon to improve wages and working conditions for these essential workers.  Rio Grande Guardian

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Adam Gonzalez, CEO of COSTEP, will visit Spain in June as part of a trade delegation hosted by the Texas Economic Development Corporation—he may also visit Italy to help promote the region as a place for new investments.  Rio Grande Guardian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TxDOT said heavy flooding improved many road conditions in Cameron County; all exit ramps on I-69E are open + eastbound ramps on IH-2 and most frontage roads are clear. Some roads remain closed, including the FM 2556 exit on westbound IH-2, roads in Rio Hondo and sections of SH 107 in Santa Rosa, as crews continue pothole repairs and debris removal.  ValleyCentral
