  • A QR code is now available for Valley residents to use the iSTAT damage survey to report property damage after the March 26th storm. Officials said the voluntary survey (not a substitute for insurance claims) will help assess damages and guide recovery efforts.  FOX RGV

  • Matt's Building Materials in Rio Grande Valley is offering a Flood Recovery Program that lowers prices on items like drywall, insulation, and doors to help residents affected by the recent severe flooding. Residents can apply with a valid photo ID, home photos, and proof of residence at any of the company's locations in Pharr, San Benito, Palmview, or Harlingen (pick-up only).  ValleyCentral

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On March 27, heavy rains along the border trapped hundreds of people in flooded homes and stranded vehicles in McAllen and nearby communities, leading to at least four deaths. Officials said rescue crews worked through the downpour+record rains caused widespread power outages and significant damage to farms and infrastructure.  KURV
  • All four Rio Grande Valley counties—Hidalgo, Cameron, Willacy, and Starr—declared disaster status after historic rains caused severe flooding and over 200 rescues in Harlingen, prompting urgent requests for state aid. A joint press conference was held today in Hidalgo County as local officials in Weslaco and Mercedes work to manage water levels and support displaced residents.  FOX RGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Record rains have flooded roadways and stranded vehicles in the Rio Grande Valley, leaving hazards as crews work to clear debris and remove abandoned cars—TxDOT and DPS crews will restore safe access while urging motorists to slow down and avoid flooded roads.  FOX RGV
  • Dr. Maria‐Elena Giner of the US Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission said that teams are patrolling levees and pumping floodwaters with proper equipment to keep the Rio Grande Valley's floodways within design capacity. If needed, excess flows will be diverted into the Mexican floodway at Retamal Dam to protect local structures.  Rio Grande Guardian
