  • Brownsville Mayor John Cowen, Jr. said SpaceX is boosting local business and tourism during his State of the City Address at Texas Southmost College. The firm has generated $99 million in tourism-related economic impact and created 24,000 jobs, with more starship launches planned to drive further growth.  Rio Grande Guardian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTRGV is hosting free business development seminars (covering business planning, government contracts, and manufacturing consulting) for local entrepreneurs. The first event takes place in Pharr on Tuesday, March 31 and continues through July.  KRGV
  • The Brownsville Independent School District's 23rd Annual Superintendent Scholarship Golf Tournament raised a record $130,000 to support graduating seniors across eight campuses, awarding each a $1,000 scholarship—and more than 75 sponsors contributed to the success.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cameron County is set to invest $3 million to upgrade Beach Access 5 at South Padre Island. The project will add new restrooms + changing stations + resurfaced parking once the building permit is approved.  KRGV
  • The Alton Recreation Center is receiving $1.1 million in FEMA funding for energy-efficient upgrades (solar microgrid, backup generator and HVAC system) to transform the facility into an emergency shelter, with work expected to be completed by 2027.  KRGV
