  • La Paloma will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday, March 29. Local families can enjoy an egg hunt at a community venue as part of a festive celebration.  Cameron County

BUSINESS NEWS

  • McAllen International Airport will soon offer daily non-stop flights to Monterrey as Aerus launches service on March 27. The new route will connect passengers to over 30 other destinations in Mexico (a timely upgrade before the upcoming World Cup matches).  KURV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Brownsville will host its first Birding Festival in 20 years on April 10 at Gladys Porter Zoo, where local groups will teach residents how to protect bird habitats + support wildlife conservation.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brownsville ISD said its fuel spending increased by $10,000 last month for 225 buses serving 12,000 students twice daily (extra funds are set aside) and that it will review its budget in May and may adjust next year’s funding if fuel prices keep rising.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Willacy County announced a 90-day burn ban on outdoor burning Thursday amid rising fire danger in the Rio Grande Valley. The ban exempts outdoor cooking + prescribed burns, after Cameron County imposed a similar ban earlier this week.  KURV
