- ➤ Brownsville celebrated the opening of a new one-mile walking trail connecting local routes to Los Fresnos on Friday. The project (funded by RGV MPO) is part of the 428-mile Caracara Trails network and will be extended with an additional mile from Los Fresnos within the next two years. KRGV
- ➤ Larry Safir, a DHR Health board member, paid tribute to his good friend Dr. Lawrence Gelman at a Celebration of Life held on Jan. 23 at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance (he was honored for his lasting impact on health care, art, and community). Rio Grande Guardian
- ➤ Animal care centers in Brownsville and Port Isabel need blankets and pee pads to keep pets warm during the cold front. Residents can drop off donations Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 416 FM 511 in Brownsville + at 262 Woodys Lane in Port Isabel. KRGV
- ➤ More than 2,000 AEP Texas customers in Brownsville lost power today when a cold front moved in around 6:18 p.m. and restoration is expected by 9:30 p.m. as a freeze warning lasts until 10 a.m. Monday (AEP Texas notice). KRGV
