- ➤ The Stillman Middle School Jazz Band (the first from Brownsville ISD) will perform nine tunes at the TMEA Convention in San Antonio from Wednesday, Feb. 11 through Saturday, Feb. 14. KRGV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Brownsville launched a new recycling program with red trash bins on January 1 and is extending service to the west side on Friday, Jan. 9. Homeowners will see an 86¢ fee increase to $37.80 as 48,000 bins are now in circulation with recycling pickup every other Friday. Rio Grande Guardian
- ➤ The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service monitored a controlled burn at the Laguna Madre Bahia Grande wildlife refuge in Cameron County after crews went beyond the planned 850 acres, burning an extra 188 acres before containing the fire Wednesday night. KRGV
